POW! WOW! is a gathering of contemporary artists that engages with the broader community in the process and creation of art and music. Centered around a week-long event in Hawaii, POW! WOW! has grown into a global network of artists and organizes gallery shows, lecture series, schools for art and music, mural projects, a large creative space named Lana Lane Studios, concerts, and live art installations across the globe.
POW! WOW! in collaboration with SprATX and SXSW will bring together international and local artists to create several mural installations during SXSW in the downtown Austin area. Local artists Mouf, Truth, Lucas Aoki, Ana maria will be featured alongside international artists Rone, Yoskay Yamamoto, Tatiana Suarez, and Meggs. These mural installations aim to not only beautify the urban landscape, but to engage the public by opening to process of creating art and letting them interact with both the artist and the artwork before, during and after the creation of the work. POW! WOW! and SprATX hope to create more murals and visual arts installations annually at SXSW, and to eventually have Art be the fourth arm added to South by Southwest’s Music, Film, and Interactive events.
