While we last heard from him last year in New Zealand (covered), RONE is back in Australia where he spent the last few days working on this massive new piece.
The external wall adjacent to Collins Street, near the corner of Exhibition Street, was handed over to Rone to create the largest street artwork he has undertaken. Commissioned by owner QIC Global Real Estate, the installation of the artwork will be a landmark piece for Melbourne’s newest street food destination, which will be called Rue & Co.
Rone worked during daylight hours for seven days, perched on a cherry-picker to gain access to the 7-storey high site. The image is based on a photograph Rone took of Australian model Teresa Oman. It is titled L’inconnue de la rue (unknown girl in the street).
Months in planning, Rone said the opportunity to create a Melbourne landmark is an incredibly powerful experience for an artist.
Take a look at more images after the break and if you are in the area, you’ll be able to find the piece on 80 Collins Street.
