From December 19 to January 3, the festival’s murals in the centre of Ostend, Belgium will be illuminated at night. Even cooler, some of them will even be brought to life by Limen Visual.

During this first edition of ‘The Crystal Ship by Night‘ existing and new works of ‘The Crystal Ship’ will be highlighted and at dusk will form a unique walking trail in Ostend. Five renowned artists, Daems & Vanremoortere, Marina Zumi, Wasted Rita, and Aryz, have eight-metre-high masterpieces in the majestic building of the city’s music conservatory.

The Crystal Ship dropped anchor in Ostend. Ever since, the arts festival has turned the coastal town into Belgium’s leading open-air gallery, with over a dozen world-renowned street artists setting sail for it every year. They have covered Ostend with murals, sculptures, installations, and just about everything you don’t expect to see in a popular holiday spot.

Aryz’ recognizable and colourful characters, skeletons and pastel portraits appeared in cities everywhere and now also in Ostend: in the Conservatorium he created a work of art dealing with the question “When and where do you feel safe?”

Daems van Remoortere, the artist duo Lena Daems and Frederik van Remoortere, play with video projections and audio to take you into a nostalgic house that bursts open while a ball grows inside. In this way they encourage us to think about what “home” really means.

Marina Zumi, an Argentinian now living in Berlin, is clearly inspired by the techno scene of the German capital. She designs surreal light installations, combining them with her street art skills to create impressive parallel worlds in neon and light.

Portuguese artist Wasted Rita designed ironic road signs for Ostend and is responsible for no less than three works for The Crystal Ship by Night. In large neon letters, she shares her sarcastic messages with anyone who wants to read them.

SpY painted randomly styled letters in Ostend, but now surprises us with an impressive laser installation of more than 500 meters.
