Sten Lex spent the past month in China working on their new exhibition which opened a few days ago in Shanghai at Magda Danysz.
Their work mainly consists of portraits of anonymous characters that they photograph as well as portraits from album covers from the ‘60s and ‘70s. Their technique, which they named “Hole School”, is a meticulous hand cut stencil process. They make a thin frame consisting of thousands of paper lines. From the contrast of the black and white lines, the portrait emerges.
For this new exhibition, the duo also unveiled a new series of abstract pieces.
If you stop by Shanghai, the show will be running until April 30th at Gallery Magda Danysz, 188 Linqing Road (x Pingliang Road), Shanghai
