Our friend Kamea Hadar just finished working on this new mural for POW! WOW!‘s newest project with The Polynesian Voyaging Society and the sacred canoe Hokulea (this was the canoe that legendary surfer Eddie Aikau lost his life trying to save).
It was a 3 part project which included artwork on Hokulea itself, its sister canoe Hikianalia and a mural done in Kakaako by Kamea and the students of POW! WOW!’s educational programs. The project aimed not only to beautify the canoes with artwork, but to educate people who would not normally be exposed to the culture, and bring attention to Malama Honua: The Worldwide Voyage.
This Friday, the two canoes will embark on a historic three year journey around the world, using only the sun, wind, waves and stars to guide them.
More images are awaiting for your click below and then go to Hokulea’s website or instagram to follow the worldwide voyage daily.
