The collection is a series of expressive new works by MEGGS that explores duality, movement, change and regrowth. Stemming from his recent residency with QBank Gallery in Queenstown, Tasmania. ‘Rain to Rust’ marks a reconnection period in MEGGS’ personal journey and artistic practice and a return home to Melbourne following his time spent in the USA, predominantly within Los Angeles (CA), Hilo (HI) and Detroit (MI).
‘This work is a deeper, more personal and abstract exploration into my own intuitive art practice and a response to the fluid connections I found in the spectrum of landscapes experienced during my travels, from dense forest foliage and coastal waters to industrial decay and urban regrowth.’ – David ‘Meggs’ Hooke
Featuring a collection of new paintings, multiples on wood, an interior mural, video piece and three dimensional installations – including a painted canoe and paddle – which celebrate the energy and cathartic release of mark making, providing MEGGS with an escape and peace of mind which the artist hopes inspires similar feelings in others.
Free tickets to the viewing will be made available as soon as possible, booking is essential. Learn more on the exhibition website: https://www.backwoods.gallery/exhibition/raintorustdavidmeggshooke
