Mariê Balbinot turns to Greek mythology in Artemide, a street-art work in Mottafollone, Calabria, made following an invitation from Pulpa Festival. Its central image is an arrow lodged in Artemis’s chest. Rather than treating the wound as a scene from the hunt, Balbinot gives it a more inward meaning: an expression of self-love. Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, a figure readily associated with a bow and arrow. Balbinot shifts the arrow’s direction, making the goddess herself its subject. That reversal carries the idea she describes without needing a retelling of the myth.
