The folks over at EVERYONE ONLY along with the Governor’s Ball Music Festival created the first The Mural Project interactive art exhibition which melded street art with the crowd at one of NYC’s biggest music festivals. Artists included Icy & Sot, Fumero, Robots Will Kill, Whisbe, Chris Stain, Craig Anthony Miller, Juan Carlos Pinto, Magda Love, John Paul O’Grodnick, Rubin 415, Gumshoe, Jacob Henderson, Balu, Iena Cruz, Katherine Clarke Langlands, Adam Dare, Joseph Meloy, Kimyon 333, & Don’t Fret.
The Governor’s Ball Music festival is a three day festival showcasing music of all different genre’s. This year line-up including Jack White, Outkast, Skrillex, Washed Out, Interpol, Empire of the Sun, and many up and comers like SKATERS, BLEACHERS, and Frank Turner.
I spent two of the three days of the festival running around the four different stages trying to catch as many bands as possible. During the countless trips back and forth I took some time to shoot the concert goers enjoying the murals featured all over the festival grounds. For more information on the Mural Project check out my preview from last week.
I had the pleasure of hanging out with some of NYC’s best street artists, and got to chat with the band SKATERS who played an amazing set on Sunday.
Skaters are an NYC based group that have been playing together for about two years now. They describe their style to be “Plasma Punk”. Drummer Noah Rubin sat down with me to discuss NYC, music, and The Mural Project.
“We actually started as a kind of art collective… we started with the idea that the band would be just one aspect of the collective. So we release music and put on art shows. We actually just last month put on an art show at the National Arts Club. We are huge fans of street art”
SKATERS debut full length album “Manhattan” is available now. Support the arts… buy a CD!!
I think the photo’s really do the best job of illustrating how amazing the festival was. Weather was great, the staff at the event were extremely helpful, and a good time was had by all.
If you couldn’t make it Governor’s Ball you still have a chance to view all the works up close and personal at Succulent Studios later this month. EVERYONE ONLY founders Lola Sherwood and Varghese Chacko will be curating the event:
