During the annual Miami Art Basel Week, the 5th edition of Basel House: Wynwood’s first official Mural Festival took place. From 8th to 10th December 2017, the festival saw the participation of artists from all over the world together with an intensive musical and artistic programme during the evening events.

Among all the invited we find the Italian artist ZED1. His creation was painted on a facade building located at 498 NW, 24th St, and has been titled “Size is no measure of greatness”.

As in all his creations, Zed1 transports us with his works into worlds and spaces detached from reality where his characters tell stories that are inspired by what is happening in the authors life.

In this case, the game of the wall is based on the concept of greatness is understood as a greatness of soul or inner greatness opposed to the physical size. The story is inspired by an encounter that actually happened in a club with a small and pretty girl. The contrast between her tiny and delicate body and her strong personality, her charisma and optimism, was so powerful to be able to raise the mood of the artist.

So in the work is depicted a small character who makes a great gesture: there is a chick who defends a small woman from the assault of an indefinite being of enormous size compared to them. This being is a hen-dragon: the paw resembles a dragon but the falling feathers resemble a bird.

“I take inspiration from what happens to me, in everyday life and then I paint the stories as they grow up in my mind”, tells the Author.
