Mural Festival 2017: Onur in Montreal

June 22, 2017
1 min read

Onur has just spent a few days over in Montreal for the fifth edition of MURAL International Public Art Festival where he has painted his first wall with special fluorescent paint that glows in black light… It looks like a lightbulb that has been on and has just been smashed, creating a glow that comes from hot glass.

Based out of Solothurn, Switzerland with Turkish roots, Onur identifies as being part of the photorealist scene. His artistic tool of choice is the acrylic roller and brushes. His former profession as a set painter for the theatre industry is evident in many of his large-scale works. Onur’s creations frequently capture moments of everyday life, freezing a specific instant in time. The characters portrayed in his works often look as though they are detached from their environment, representing highly complex and existentialist human sentiments. Since 2008, he has worked as an independent painter and muralist, travelling the world to display his artworks and participate in major festivals.

Take a look below for more images by Daniel Weintraub aka Halopigg on how this mural came together and a video from Instagrafite on how this mural looks at night… Also, stay tuned for more completed murals from Mural Festival 2017!
