Warsaw-based artist Edyta Hul is bringing her painting practice into book form with Materia From The Land, a forthcoming softcover volume from Snap Collective. The English-language title is available for pre-order while production is underway.
The cover is wrapped in olive and ochre ribbons of paint. In the publisher’s preview, loose blue lines open onto dense, swelling forms in grey, teal and green. Some spreads give a single image room to breathe; others let the painted marks carry across both pages. Seen together, they offer a close look at the movement and layering that animate Hul’s work.
Hul works with oil and enamel on canvas, drawing attention to details of everyday surroundings that might otherwise pass unnoticed. Her images move away from the figure and toward elaborate, sometimes tangled structures. The book’s page-to-page changes in colour and scale make that process legible in a different way from viewing a single painting on a wall.
The publisher credits Elena Bidnenko with the book’s design and Anna Romanovici as editorial assistant. It lists the ISBN as 978-87-7620-799-1. Snap Collective says the book is still in production and that pre-order deliveries may take several weeks; its shop has the current price and availability.
